Leading Industry Experts and Provider Clients to Exhibit and Share Best Practices in Penetration Testing and Highlight Privacy Challenges in Research Processes

Mission Viejo, California, February 8, 2018 (HIMSS Booth #5060) CynergisTek, Inc., a leader in healthcare cybersecurity and information management, today announced that its Vice President of Cybersecurity, John Nye, and Vice President of Audit Strategy, Marti Arvin, were selected to lead two sessions at the 2018 Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference and Exhibition. Nye will co-present the session titled, “Attacking Your Own Network: A Lesson on Penetration Testing,” with Chuck Kesler, CISO of Duke Health. Arvin will also co-present the session titled, “Research and the EHR: Process Improvement Through Integration,” with Dr. Arash Naiem, Chief Medical Research Officer of UCLA Health Sciences.

In the session, “Attacking Your Own Network: A Lesson on Penetration Testing,” Nye and Kesler will discuss current cybersecurity threats affecting the healthcare industry, and will share examples from provider organizations that have benefited from integrating proper security measures. This presentation will explain the common reasons that healthcare organizations are resistant to penetration testing and provide an in-depth analysis of the benefits and best practices of offensive security assessments. This session will take place on Wednesday, March 7 at 8:30 a.m. PST in the Sands Expo Convention Center, Marcello 4401.

During the “Research and the EHR: Process Improvement Through Integration” presentation, Arvin and Naiem will outline the process for developing and implementing a system to improve the workflow and efficiency of the clinical trial submission and management process. More specifically, this presentation will discuss the considerations around privacy and security for integrating the Institutional Review Board (IRB) submission system with the clinical trials management system (CTMS) and the EHR, and how organizations can balance end-user satisfaction and compliance objectives within the integrated systems. This session will take place on Wednesday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m. PST in the Sands Expo Convention Center, Palazzo L.

“We’re excited to have a strong presence at HIMSS once again this year, both on stage and on the show floor, especially as this is such a critical time for healthcare organizations to adapt to the increasingly complex threat landscape,” said Mac McMillan, CEO of CynergisTek. “As the healthcare industry continues to be targeted by malicious actors and breaches continue to rise as a result, HIMSS provides a great opportunity for us to connect with industry leaders, executives, and attendees looking to engage and discuss the proper steps for updating and maintaining proper security procedures.”

CynergisTek will also be exhibiting at HIMSS18 and attendees will have the opportunity to speak with company executives to learn more about the latest threats and best practices in security, privacy, and compliance.
