Healthcare Security Executives Get New Credential, Educational Program through AEHIS
ANN ARBOR, MI, Aug. 7, 2019 – The Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Security (AEHIS) has launched two new initiatives to help IT security executives excel in their careers and maintain the highest standards. Beginning this September, AEHIS will offer a new credential that recognizes executives who demonstrate forward-thinking leadership with technical proficiency and tactical knowledge in healthcare security. In addition, AEHIS and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) will kick off a new educational program in November designed to give chief information security officers (CISOs) and others the real-world skills they need to succeed in their positions.
The AEHIS certification and Healthcare CISO Boot Camp are two separate opportunities to capitalize on a member’s professional development provided by CHIME and AEHIS.
The Certified Healthcare Information Security Leader (CHISL) credential is modeled after the CHIME Certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO), the first certification program exclusively for CIOs. To earn the CHISL designation, a security executive will need to pass an exam that tests his or her knowledge of seven domains: organizational vision and strategy, technology proficiency, change management, value assessment and management, service management, talent management and management of security relationships. Those leaders seeking the CHISL credential will also need to demonstrate three years of healthcare security leadership experience. Once enrolled in the credential program, participants will have access to exam study materials and the option of in-person or remote testing.
CHIME and AEHIS will conduct the first-ever Healthcare CISO Boot Camp on Nov. 6-9 in Phoenix. The Healthcare CISO Boot Camp will apply an interactive format developed under the popular CHIME Healthcare CIO Boot Camp™ with a focus on security leadership. The three-and-a-half-day educational event will be taught by a faculty of healthcare security leaders and will include success factors, case studies, panel Q&As and networking opportunities. The boot camp will kick off directly after the AEHIS Fall Summit in Phoenix.
“AEHIS has grown substantially since its launch in 2014,” said Will Long, chair of the AEHIS Board and vice president and CISO at Children’s Health in Dallas. “In that time, CISOs and other senior security executives have taken on more responsibilities and now are vital to protecting the safety and privacy of patients. The CHISL certification will allow our members to test their knowledge and distinguish themselves as leaders while the CISO boot camp will provide the skills and tools they need to thrive in today’s complex healthcare environment. Both are valuable resources for our community.”
The Healthcare CISO Boot Camp is open to members of CHIME, AEHIS or CHIME’s two other affiliates, the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Applications (AEHIA) and the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Technology (AEHIT), and their direct reports. Attendance is limited. Enrollment into the Certified Healthcare Information Security Leader is available to AEHIS members who have a baccalaureate degree or are enrolled in a baccalaureate program and have experience in healthcare security.
