Will Long, VP and CISO at Children’s Health, Named AEHIS Chair

ANN ARBOR, MI, April 9, 2019 – The Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Security (AEHIS) has named Will Long chair of the AEHIS Board, effective immediately. Long replaces Sean Murphy, who recently accepted a position outside of healthcare. Earlier this year, Fortinet’s National Healthcare Practice Director Sonia Arista also joined the AEHIS Board.

Long is vice president and CISO at Children’s HealthSM in Dallas, where he is responsible for development and oversight of the organization’s corporate information security program. As leader of the information security program, he monitors new and emerging threats and regularly adjusts the organization’s security programs to mitigate risks. He oversees the development of information security policies, cyber incident response, security operations, risk assurance and other security functions. In addition to securing traditional information systems, he also directs the efforts to secure the many connected medical devices used across hospital operations. Long also oversees the Healthcare Technology management functions and directs medical device security programs. Prior to Children’s HealthSM, he was the vice president of technology and infrastructure at Baylor Scott & White Health.

Long previously served as vice chair of the AEHIS Board, which plays a critical role in steering the overall direction of the association. He also serves as co-chair of the AEHIS Education and Events committee. His tenure as the AEHIS Board chair will continue through Dec. 31, 2020.

“In just five years, AEHIS has grown into the leading organization for healthcare security executives,” Long said. “I welcome the opportunity to work with the board and our members to make AEHIS even stronger as we roll out new benefits like certification, boot camps and more educational programs.”

Arista joined Fortinet in May 2018 and is responsible for the go-to-market strategy, solutions and sales growth for the company’s healthcare business. Prior to Fortinet, she was a healthcare strategy principal at GuidePoint Security. Most recently, Arista had been contracted to serve as an interim CISO for several healthcare-related entities and held CISO leadership positions for Tufts Medical Center and the New England Quality Care Alliance.

“Given that there are so many business and clinical technological advancements in the healthcare industry, data security and privacy assurances will also need to be at the forefront of development,” Arista said. “AEHIS has a unique opportunity to lead that conversation, as it is comprised of leaders in manufacturing, products, services, academia, and most importantly ‘real-world’ practitioners.”

Arista is a founding member of AEHIS. Her term will continue through 2021.
